There are many styles of residential architecture in the United States. From Colonial and Farmhouse to Tudor and Craftsman, there’s plenty to pick from. However, one particularly unique and popular style is Pueblo, a sub type of Spanish Revival Architecture that is sometimes also known as Adobe style.
What are Pueblo Style homes?
Pueblo style architecture is inspired by traditional Pueblo Indian structures which have been around since 750 A.D. The more traditional pueblo houses were very simple back in the day and were built using large adobe bricks (made from clay and water) to ensure the home remained cool and comfortable.
The Pueblo style we know today was brought to life around the turn of the 20th century in Arizona and New Mexico. It has more of a Spanish influence and is known as Pueblo Revival.
The sleek and simple design of Pueblo Revival style homes continues to be very popular in the Southwest due to their very thick walls that keep the heat out and maintain a cool temperature inside.
In the early 21st century, modern construction materials were sometimes used in conjunction with adobe, to ensure stronger and more durable structure.

Features of Pueblo homes:
Other features of Pueblo style houses include flat or sloping roofs with parapets, traditional materials like adobe that create smooth and earthy-tone walls, enclosed courtyards or patios, oversized rustic wood features like doors, porches, and ceiling beams, rounded exterior features, and square windows.
Modern pueblo houses will feature some of the above, but with more windows and modern additions.
