Things To Do From Home: Thanksgiving 2020

While Thanksgiving 2020 looks different from years past, there are plenty of fun things happening that you can enjoy aside from your meal. Be sure to check out the CDC Thanksgiving page , too.

Welcome Santa with the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade

There won’t be crowds lining the parade route this year. But Macy’s is still putting on the parade for folks to celebrate together from home … and, of course, to welcome Santa! It airs on Thanksgiving at 9:00 AM in all time zones, on NBC. Details from Macy’s.

Root for your favorite breed

As usual, The National Dog Show will follow the Macy’s parade on NBC, noon – 2:00 PM in all time zones. This year’s event was filmed without a crowd over two days in Philadelphia, and the Thanksgiving day show will broadcast the highlights for two-hours of doggone fun (pun intended!).

Watch a little football (or a lot)

Football and Thanksgiving have long gone together, and that’s one thing 2020 hasn’t changed.

Catch 3 NFL games starting at 9:30 AM PT.

  • Texans vs Lions, 9:30 AM PT on CBS
  • Washington Football Team vs Cowboys, 1:30 PM PT on FOX
  • Ravens vs Steelers, 5:20 PM PT on NBC

Shop!

Have you noticed that Black Friday is less of a thing than it used to be? So is Cyber Monday. Retailers are stretching out their sales more than ever this year. Keep an eye on your favorite online stores. We bet there will be some one-day-only magic happening on Turkey Day.

Plus, Small Business Saturday is officially on November 28, so you might take some time on Thanksgiving to find your local participating businesses as well as online small businesses to support.

Bonus: Decorate for Christmas

In 2020, if you celebrate Christmas and you haven’t yet strung up lights, you’re actually late. With people spending more time at home, lots of folks decorated early to get more enjoyment out of the season. So, here’s your official permission to mix up the holidays and let your Thanksgiving meal happen next to your Christmas tree. If you want to get out decorations for other holidays, too, we’re OK with that.
